I was in the audience at The University of Manchester, and it’s stuck with me for the last couple of years. It was a moving, informative narration told in a visual and very effective way (despite the size of the venue). Thank you for sharing it.

Comment on The personal is political… and that includes debt. by Andy butlin http://multi-story-shipley.co.uk/?p=2385#comment-68232 Sun, 22 Sep 2019 21:05:43 +0000 http://multi-story-shipley.co.uk/?p=2385#comment-68232 Incommunities are absolutely horrendous. I lived in adelaide house at crosley wood road and managed to get a move to where i am. It is correct in saying that people give up reporting repairs because things never get fixed.

I had a crumbling wall in my living room and ended up with brickwork showing through the plaster. I was sleeping on the sofa at the time and i was waking up with bits of wall all over me. I logged the job with the repair team. When i chased it up months later it wasnt on the system. I ended up paying for the wall to be re plastered. I had a rent debt from adelaide house dropped because the refund for replastering cost more than my debt so they opted to drop the rent debt instead of reimburse me for plaster work.

Beast from the east happened and my boiler stopped working for 7 days. They said they would be with me before 8pm, nobody turned up. This happened for a week. they had me wait in for somebody who never turned up. I lost a weeks wage waiting for them and by the time they came the boiler had fixed itself.

The windows in my flat are over 20years old and needs replacing because they leak and let in drafts.

I fell out of my shower and whilst falling i grabbed the shower curtain and i manged to rip it down off the ceiling, this was 3 years ago and it still hasn’t been fixed.

It took them ages to arrange somebody to come and level my kitchen floor because it was a trip hazard, i had to launch an official complaint to get my floor fixed before i laid my lino.

Incommunities are not bothered about maintaining their properties at all. You log something and they cant give you a day or time and expect you to sit in all day everyday just on the offchance they might turn up. they are more bothered about building new houses and giving money to charities but where it really counts, communication with tenants, building community relations is not there at all. There are various things ive requested permission to change and some as far back as nearly 4 years ago, i was told we will be in touch but guess what, they havent.

They are self serving and they really need some form of independent investigation to take place because they really are not what they seem.

Sorry for the long comment but last bit of advice, if you are planning to get a property with incommunities, get all the repairs done on the place before you sign the tenancy because if you dont and you sign it first then you wont get your repairs dealt with and you will be left to rot.

Comment on Getting Together… at Higher Coach Road by Pamela Ruppe http://multi-story-shipley.co.uk/?p=2961#comment-67901 Fri, 23 Aug 2019 20:41:12 +0000 http://multi-story-shipley.co.uk/?p=2961#comment-67901 Lovely words and I echo Victoria, You got us going. The Young Artists Group is a success thanks also to the lovely Nicola Murray of Spongetree, Some of the original youngsters are moving on and involving themselves in the wider community and younger ones are coming on board. Other projects planned and we continue our campaign to get a better bus service!

Really good to see such a comprehensive understanding of how a community can relate to its waterways.

Comment on River stewardship at Higher Coach Road by Lauren http://multi-story-shipley.co.uk/?p=1942#comment-66860 Wed, 08 May 2019 08:50:04 +0000 http://multi-story-shipley.co.uk/?p=1942#comment-66860 Hi Steve, A note of warning to Shipley locals, due to a recent two-week break I missed our local council waste collections, so I ended up using a man and the van rubbish clearance service I found on Facebook, it cost me £35 and the damn guy fly tipped the waste. I ended up going to court and being fined as it was my fault for not making sure the guy was a registered waste carrier. I urge anyone wishing to have waste removed to check that the company you hire has a waste carriers licence issued by the UK environment agency. You can check to see if a business is registered here https://environment.data.gov.uk/public-register/view/search-waste-carriers-brokers

Also check to see if they are registered with AFTA, the anti fly-tipping association which you can check here https://www.afta.org.uk/

Last thing you want to do is be taken to court and prosecuted and end up with a criminal record. Be very wary when hiring these man and van type services to clear your waste.

Comment on Dockfield – going through Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes… by lee weston http://multi-story-shipley.co.uk/?p=1907#comment-66132 Thu, 21 Mar 2019 10:32:00 +0000 http://multi-story-shipley.co.uk/?p=1907#comment-66132 The sign makes a claim to private rights, but it’s clear from our interviews with local residents that the canal always used to be seen as a community asset. People fished in it, swam in it, you name it… One interviewee memorably referred to it as “the Leeds-Liverpool Lido”…

Regarding the above comment, the fishing rights on the canal are controlled by Saltaire Angling Association who pay a considerable amount of money to the Canal & Rivers Trust. There is no such thing as free fishing on the canal.

Comment on Life in a Bradford tower block: It’s about citizens, not cladding. by Daniel hird http://multi-story-shipley.co.uk/?p=2022#comment-62690 Tue, 04 Sep 2018 18:43:10 +0000 http://multi-story-shipley.co.uk/?p=2022#comment-62690 My daughter and mother live in a incomunity house on Buttershaw that is full of damp and black mold when she got it it was discussing and riddled with fleas I and my partner helped them remove carpets smoke bomb the house even throw there belongings as we’re now covered in fleas strip and decorate it as it’s my trade walls were that bad I had to sand them down and stabilise with pva solution before using enless bags of filler as I’m not a plasterer and well they weren’t going to pay for that
A lot of time and money later it was a house I could accept my child living in but winter came and all the work was for nothing as damp set in the gabal end heating was on full 24/7 with no effect they knew about because there’s a damp air con in the loft on reporting this damp they sent some one out to check building (green team guy said it’s bad have you thought about moving I would I I was you)and found it was letting water/damp in on gabal end and would cost £19000 appx to fix and rebuild and would not pay for it it was to expensive (witch to my knowledge is there responsibility regardless of cost) and opted for cheap band aid of sliver heat liners behind radiators instead of fixing problem like it’s not really there responsibility as it stands the money and time I spent on loverly girly owl paper is now covered in black mold curtains same and my daughter has breathing problems now no one wants to help I feel helpless as a father and done all I can but they still want full rent and to send letters regarding falling behind witch there quick to react to even though to my knowledge it’s not legally rentable
Somebody independent needs to assess these properties and make them responsible for there landlord duites
